Climate Energy
Climate Energy’s freewatt System is a combined heat and power system developed specifically for residential applications. Using advanced power technology from Honda, the freewatt combines heat and electrical power generation to provide unrivaled total energy efficiency for the home. The freewatt System is designed to be installed in the place of a conventional furnace or boiler and can use the existing ducting system to deliver heat to the home.
The freewatt system utilizes the heating fuel twice, to provide electricity to the home and then to heat the home. The engine generator provides a base level of heat to the home while creating electricity. On the coldest days of the year, the built in auxiliary furnace or boiler will be used to supplement the generator’s heat to maintain your optimum comfort level.
For New England homes, the freewatt system can provide approximately 80% of the environmental benefit of renewable energy systems such as solar PV systems while having significant cost, application, and installation advantages. The technology in freewatt is now in use in over 50,000 homes in Japan.
