How does geothermal energy work?
A geothermal system utilizes a high-efficiency heat pump system specially designed for ground source heat exchange. Geothermal, or ground-source heat pump systems, operate much like an air-source system, such as a window unit air conditioner or refrigerator. The heat pump, which is powered by electricity, pulls heat from one area, called a source, and transfers it to another, called a sink. The advantage of geothermal exchange systems is in the efficiency gained from the infinite heating and cooling source of the earth.
