Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation, Nexamp, and The Mayor of Boston Celebrate Completion of Green Affordable Housing Development
Mayor Menino: "Turning Bean Town into Green Town!"
Mayor Thomas Menino was on hand to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony of Dudley Village, a recently completed affordable green housing development in Dorchester, MA. The project was a collaboration between the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND), the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation (DBEDC) and the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DNSI). In all, 50 low-income affordable units were completed in this project. "Today we celebrate because we have transformed these parcels into homes for our residents, " said Menino. "By working together we have given families a beautiful place to call home. That's something we can all be proud of." In order for DBEDC to obtain Department of Neighborhood Development funding, the project had to meet the LEED Silver and Energy Star Standards. Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation hired Nexamp to install a solar array on the roof of the development to help obtain these high energy efficiency standards. Nexamp installed an 8 kW solar photovoltaic system to supply electricity to the facility's common areas. "We are turning Bean Town into Green Town", said Menino when talking about the solar implementation completed by Nexamp. 42 panels, manufactured by Massachusetts company, Evergreen Solar, make up the solar array. Featured Nexamp Employee: Geothermal Expert - Damien Morinon Geothermal specialist, Damien Morinon, joined the Nexamp team in August 2008. Damien brings over 10 years of heating and cooling experience to Nexamp clients. Damien, originally from Lyon, France, holds a masters degree in International Business from the University of Montpellier. Damien is also IGSHPA certified (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association). Project management, feasibility studies, and sales are all included in Damien's day to day activities at Nexamp.
A geothermal heat pump (GHP) provides heating and cooling for your home
and replaces a conventional HVAC system such as a furnace and an air
conditioner by harnessing the moderate temperature of the earth.
With the new federal tax credit policy on geothermal heating and cooling systems put in place by the Obama administration, geothermal systems have become more affordable to the average homeowner.
"With the federal tax credit covering 30% of the cost to install a geothermal heating and cooling system, we are able to offer our clients a substantial rate of return on their clean energy investment," said Morinon. "Geothermal heating and cooling is not only an environmentally friendly way to heat and cool your home, it's also extremely economical and comfortable," Damien added.

Nexamp Installs Cape Cod's Largest Solar PV System
Oyster Harbors Marine, located in Osterville, MA, hired Nexamp to design and install the largest solar photovoltaic system on Cape Cod. 276 panels make up the 58 kW solar photovoltaic array, which was completed in early June. The solar system sits atop Oyster Habrors Marine's newly constructed 20,000 square foot boat maintenance facility, and will produce approximately 30% of the electricity used on site.
"We are extremely excited about this solar project," said Ron Silvia, president of Oyster Harbors Marine. "We ran out of roof! If we had more room on our facility, we would have installed even more solar panels."
Federal and State government representatives were on hand at the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the solar system going fully operational in August, including U.S. Congressmen William Delahunt (D-Mass). "What is exciting is that the future is here on Cape Cod," said Delahunt in reference to the importance that green jobs as well as alternative energy have on the future of our economy.

Nexamp Teams with Sustainable Duxbury to Install Solar Array at Chandler Elementary School
Nexamp recently installed a 2.4 kW solar photovoltaic array in the courtyard of Chandler Elementary School in Duxbury, MA. The pole-mounted system includes a real time, internet based, energy monitoring system produced by Heliotronics. The solar system will provide a valuable teaching tool to the students in Duxbury. "This solar system will allow us to teach our students the value of alternative energy," said Superintendent Sue Skeiber. To view the real time monitoring of this solar PV system, CLICK HERE.The project was made possible by the actions of Sustainable
