Nexamp today celebrated the completion of Ellsworth Renewables, a 5.9-megawatt community solar project now delivering power to Maine’s electric grid. The facility will help meet growing demand for electricity in the Versant Power service area and contribute to a more balanced, resilient statewide energy mix.
Located in Ellsworth, the project includes more than 10,000 U.S.-made solar modules capable of producing enough electricity to power approximately 1,000 Maine homes each year. By supplying locally generated power to the grid, Ellsworth Renewables reduces strain on transmission infrastructure and supports the region’s ongoing efforts to ensure reliable energy access for residents and businesses.
“As communities across Maine continue to experience higher energy demand, projects like Ellsworth Renewables are an important part of keeping the grid strong and adaptable,” said Henry Barrett, Business Development Director at Nexamp. “Our focus is on delivering dependable power that supports the state’s growth—ensuring that residents, schools, small businesses, and others have access to affordable, consistent energy for years to come.”
Local and state officials joined Nexamp to cut the ribbon on this project, which contributed to the local economy during construction and will provide enhanced tax revenue to the city of Ellsworth. Also at the ribbon cutting event was a demonstration of Nexamp’s solar grazing program, which provides revenue opportunities to local farmers for vegetation management using sheep rather than mechanical mowing.
Nexamp operates more than three dozen projects across Maine, contributing to a diverse mix of energy resources that strengthen local infrastructure and support the state’s evolving power needs. Ellsworth Renewables underscores the company’s long-term investment in Maine’s energy future and its commitment to ensuring reliable electricity for communities statewide.
