Annawan, a small town in the northwest portion of Illinois, is home to Shabbona Creek Solar, a 2.9 MW Nexamp community solar farm serving area residents who get their power from the Ameren grid. The project occupies approximately 17 acres of previously cleared land and employs nearly 5,000 American-made solar modules to generate enough electricity to offset the needs of 400 or so average households. Community solar customers gain access to the benefits of solar with no up-front cost or long-term commitment, saving money on their annual electric costs while supporting the growth of clean energy in the region.
